Well there are chemicals involved but it no Caustic Chemicals that damage your scalp and dry out your hair. If you’re trying to grow your hair out stretching your perm (which means waiting the longest time possible between retouches) and going Natural are two tried and true methods. When I first started damaging my hair, I did not want to let go of my perm. My edges would get frizzy and my ponytails started becoming lumpy. I was a faithful 6 weeker sometimes even 4! When I went natural my hair was thick and course and I kept it in braids or pulled back in a bun with black gel coated on to stop the frizzies. recently I came across a chemical process that was lighter on my hair than a no-lye relaxer; The Naturalaxer http://www.africanwonders.com/ My hair kept its original wave pattern so I could wash and go curly. I found that I didn't have to use as much chemicals to hold it down and my ends weren't dried out. I could now wash, gloss and go.
I also have the blow dryer frizz problem perm or not. My hair was so dry that unless I gelled it immediately it would puff up. Blow drying DID NOT give me silky hair. After using naturlaxer I had better results I was able to blow dry press a little and have straight shiny hair. I don't use it often as work and school has and a third grader keeps me busy, I've been twisting and braiding. Check out the website. The girl (lavetta) from The Steve Harvey show was even a model in one of their pictures. Tell me if you've tried it.
